La Maison de Curiosité

In this studio I was tasked with a conceptual project based on the idea of a cabinet of curiosity. Each student designed a space for an individual who would ultimately reside there as well as display his or her artifacts that would derive from a natural phenomenon. I was interested in the formation of sand dunes on Mars. While similar to that of Earth’s, the temperature of air and constant sand storms causes these ripples on the surface of Mars to occur. The first step of this exploration began with tracing lines over a series of images, ranging from farthest zoom to closest zoom (Fig. 1). The variety of these tracings, when put next to each other, created a sort of undulation that would inform the rest of the project.
